Who can use our animal welfare certification mark?

The CERTIFIED HUMANE® seal is a registered trademark owned by the Humane Farm Animal Care (HFAC) organization, which created the Certified Humane Raised & Handled program for farm animal welfare certification. For this reason, it can only be used by certified companies that have signed a brand licensing agreement with HFAC.

The CERTIFIED HUMANE® logo ensures that the animals that produced the food in question were truly raised under strict animal welfare standards. The presence of the seal on a product’s packaging means that the company that produced it has undergone a certification process that met the requirements outlined in the Program Policy Manual and adhered to the specific standards that determine the welfare criteria for that particular species.

The seal may only be used while the producer’s certificate of conformity is valid.

Therefore, stay vigilant and report any misuse of our seal. You can contact us by sending a photo of where you saw the seal (packaging, website, brochure, etc.) to asia@certifiedhumane.org.

It is important to clarify that if a company does not certify 100% of its production, every reference to the CERTIFIED HUMANE® seal or the certification seal must specify which product line it refers to. In such cases, the company may not mislead consumers into believing that its entire production is certified.

We do not allow the use of the seal or mention of the certification program by uncertified companies, even if they claim to follow the standards. If we cannot guarantee that the products are produced or that the animals are raised according to the certification program’s criteria, we do not allow the use of the certification mark under any circumstances. This guarantee results from a certification process that all certified companies must undergo.

CERTIFIED HUMANE® Seal Usage Criteria

All certified product packaging must be approved by the certification team before final printing. Among various criteria, we evaluate:

• Whether the seal has a minimum width of 2 cm (except for cases where the packaging is very small).
• Whether the website www.certifiedhumane.org is present. 
• Whether there are any misleading references on the packaging related to animal welfare or any claim that could not be verified through our audits.
