Toh Thye San Farm – GG French Poulet
Toh Thye San Farms (TTS) is a food supplier industry specializing in chicken, beef, lamb, seafood, and vegetables. Headquartered in Singapore, it owns Gesing Group Sdn. Bhd. (GGSB), which is dedicated to the production of broiler chickens in Malaysia. These farms produce both white chickens and brown chickens under the GG French or “Anxin” lineage. These are the animals raised on seven farms whose production has been certified by the Certified Humane® program.
It all began with a small family farm in Loyang. The company, which has evolved to keep pace with environmental changes, has focused its efforts on what it traditionally knows best: producing and marketing quality products such as FF French Poulet. “We are one of the few companies in Singapore that owns and operates a fully integrated agricultural space,” comments the owner, Kenny Toh.
Kenny recalls that the farm is a tribute to his grandfather, who shares the same name. The family has always worked hard on this farm since the beginning. Later, as the farm grew and Toh Thye San aged, he passed the baton to his father, who dedicated himself just as much to bringing the farm to where it stands today.
TTS: A Pioneer in Animal Welfare in Singapore
Gesing Group Sdn. Bhd. is a TTS-owned and managed operation that conducts quality control throughout all stages of production. The farm has a feed factory and broiler chicken facilities for commercial purposes. Currently, the production reaches 120,000 birds per month.
TTS is a pioneer in Singapore when it comes to responsible farming, performed with ethics and quality. “Thus, we wanted to advance our standards through audits and achieving certifications to ensure we stayed at the top of our segment,” says Kenny. “That’s why the Certified Humane® program immediately appeared on our radar, as it is an international certification present in most countries that follow stringent animal welfare standards,” he adds.
The company strictly follows animal welfare practices, building a business based on ethical and responsible farming. Kenny asserts that he and his team are the number one fans of their own production, convinced that working this way results in tastier meats. TTS’s farming practices are structured according to the five freedoms of animals:
- Freedom from hunger and thirst, with immediate access to water and a balanced diet;
- Freedom from discomfort, providing shelter and a comfortable resting area;
- Freedom from pain and disease through prevention, with quick diagnosis and treatment;
- The ability for animals to express their natural behaviors, providing enough space, proper facilities, and contact with other animals of the same species;
- Freedom from fear and distress, ensuring conditions that prevent psychological suffering.
At TTS, chickens are free and feel comfortable approaching humans and gathering around them. “This really shows that the birds are genuinely comfortable with people’s presence because they are always well-treated by the farmers, and that’s something we are truly proud of,” Kenny comments.
TTS products serve the finest restaurants in Singapore. “This is a testament to the quality of our goods, which are easy to use in all types of cuisines. Our clients are internationally recognized with awards such as the ‘Top 100 Best in the World,’ of which we are proud to support two of Singapore’s three recipients on this list,” he says.
