Keris Aryan Marketing SDN BHD
Keris Aryan Marketing Sdn Bhd, owner of Uncle Rani Organic Chicken Farm, is setting a precedent in the production of eggs and chickens raised in cage-free systems in Malaysia. With over 20 years of experience, the company operates on a 5-acre site in the state of Selangor and stands out for its commitment to quality and sustainability.
Seeking to improve its practices and meet market demands, the company obtained the Certified Humane® certification, reinforcing its commitment to strict animal welfare standards.
The decision to seek certification came about following a recommendation from a purchasing manager at the Marriott chain in Kuala Lumpur, who highlighted the global preference for Certified Humane® suppliers.
The company started a pilot project with 300 laying hens, planning to gradually expand its production. After going through the auditing process, it was decided that the entire operation would follow the certification criteria, ensuring that 100% of the eggs sold met the required standards.
Uncle Rani Organic Chicken Farm has a lean team of five employees, responsible for up to 5,000 birds raised in a free-range system. During the day, the chickens have ample space to explore outdoor areas, and at night they are housed in protected sheds. This approach contrasts with conventional high-density systems, providing a more healthy environment for the animals.
In addition to proper management, the birds’ feed is carefully formulated with natural ingredients, including local plants, herbs, fruits and essential nutrients such as rice bran, fishmeal, seaweed and probiotics. This care ensures the health of the birds and improves the quality of the eggs and meat produced.
Adapting to the Certified Humane® guidelines required planning and structural adjustments. One of the main challenges was ensuring an adequate number of nest boxes, allowing the hens to lay eggs more comfortably. This adjustment resulted in a significant increase in productivity, with a 10% increase in the first week and reaching 25% over time!
The organization and control of the farm’s records has been improved, allowing for more efficient monitoring of the birds’ health and behaviour. Certification has brought credibility to the business and encouraged the adoption of practices that are increasingly aligned with the principles of animal welfare.
Uncle Rani Organic Chicken Farm’s products are supplied to international hotel chains in Malaysia, such as Four Seasons, Marriott, Hyatt, Banyan Tree and Intercontinental. Adherence to animal welfare standards has become a competitive advantage, adding value to the product and winning over demanding customers.
The company’s journey began in 2010, when its founder, Abdul Rani Wahab, decided to invest in the production of cage-free chickens. A mechanical and electrical engineer by training, he left corporate life to dedicate himself to the agro-industry. His goal was to find solutions to make food healthier, avoiding conventional methods that accelerate the growth of birds with the use of processed foods and GMOs.
Before starting the farm, Abdul Rani spent two years researching alternative farming methods, analyzing consumption patterns and testing different approaches to balance sustainability, productivity and nutritional quality. The result was an innovative production model that combines animal welfare, responsible management and a natural diet for the birds.
The Certified Humane® certification has consolidated Uncle Rani Organic Chicken Farm’s commitment to responsible production. The company continues to improve its practices and encourage other farms to adopt a more ethical and sustainable model. The pursuit of excellence and respect for the environment demonstrate that it is possible to produce high-quality food without compromising the integrity of the animals and the ecosystem.
With a commitment to ensuring sustainable practices and animal welfare, the company has obtained the Certified Humane® certification, ensuring that its birds are raised in free-range systems, with natural feed and responsible management.
