Nature Life Women Farmer Producer Company Limited
Nature Life Women Farmer Producer Company Limited, located in Dongargaon, in the Solapur district of Maharashtra, India, was established to provide women farmers with an alternative source of income through sustainable animal farming.
The producers are also shareholders in the organization and are responsible for managing the farm, with cage-free poultry production as its first initiative. The search for Certified Humane® certification was supported by Sodexo India Private Limited who introduced the program and provided guidance throughout the project.
Sodexo India Private Limited, provided financial support while Sulabh International School of Action Sociology and Sociology of Sanitation (SISASSS) provided management support.
Currently, the certification covers one poultry house, which represents 100% of the company’s current production. The company plans to expand its activities and introduce the cage-free model to new facilities.
Adapting to the program’s criteria has brought new learning opportunities for the team. One of the challenges was finding resources that are still not widely used in local poultry farming, such as ammonia testing kits and nest boxes. As the certification was adopted recently, the group is still monitoring the effects of the new practices on the birds’ behaviour.
Animal welfare and sustainability are part of Nature Life’s approach. At this initial stage, Certified Humane® guidelines serve as a reference for the organization’s work as the team continues to build experience in the activity. Its products are already marketed across the state of Maharashtra.
