Pearl Egg
Located in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India, this farm is dedicated to producing cage-free eggs with a focus on humane practices. The company began its activities by raising 200 hens in a free-range system, producing around 100 eggs per day. Recognizing the potential to meet the commercial market, the farm decided to build a barn for cage-free hens and started supplying eggs to the Marriott Group of Hotels.
Participating in a roundtable organized by Humane Society International India sparked the company’s interest in animal welfare, leading to the decision to pursue Certified Humane® certification. Following consultations with experts, the farm adopted recommended practices to obtain the certification, ensuring that all its operations aligned with the highest animal welfare standards.
Currently, the farm has approximately 1,000 hens and produces around 900 eggs per day, with a dedicated team of two employees. All egg production is certified as cage-free, with plans to expand the number of hens to up to 4,000, always following ethical and sustainable practices.
To meet the requirements of the Certified Humane® program, the farm implemented several improvements, such as expanding the perch area, adjusting the height of the feeders to the hens’ chest level, raising the nest floor substrate, and increasing calcium supplementation. These changes resulted in calmer, healthier birds, as well as increased productivity.
The farm’s eggs are currently supplied exclusively within Bengaluru, primarily to the Marriott Group of Hotels. The company’s strategy is to continue promoting animal welfare, ensuring that all hens are raised in cage-free environments.
